 Indigenous Community Facilitator 

(Full-time, contract until March 31, 2025)

 

Catholic Crosscultural Services (CCS) is a settlement agency providing a wide range of services to immigrants and refugees regardless of race, religion or status. 

 

We are searching for a full-time Indigenous Community Facilitator to build relationships with the indigenous community organizations and representatives. The Indigenous Community Facilitator will also be responsible to build capacity within CCS to increase the integration of activities and initiatives to support newcomers’ participation in supporting Canada's commitment to reconciliation and providing accessible information to newcomers about indigenous people.

What you will be doing:

  • Provide monthly group information sessions focusing on increasing newcomers’ knowledge of Canada's indigenous people, history, challenges, and truth and reconciliation efforts.
  • Deliver monthly interactive group sessions built of traditional practices to create an understanding and appreciation of indigenous people.
  • Design and deliver information sessions and activities to increase environmental awareness through introducing indigenous people relationship to the land to derive active participation of newcomers in environmentally driven initiatives.
  • Facilitate connection between newcomers and indigenous organizations, guest speakers, elders, and artists.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and familiarity of the Indigenous community and the services available in the Greater Toronto Area
  • Organize and provide information sessions to support settlement workers capacity to have better understand on the indigenous communities so that staff can integrate the resources into their group activities or LINC class activities.
  • Compile Resource list of indigenous community and organizations and develop genuine connections between newcomers and indigenous peoples 
  • Actively
  • Develop and implement community outreach plans and actively outreach to the newcomers and indigenous community to promote CCS programs and services.
  • Actively participate in regular team and regional meetings.
  • Maintain and update all client information in the OCMS database in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Prepare and submit timely statistical and progress reports as required.
  • Meet all program goals as assigned.

What are we looking for?

  • Social and Community Services diploma or equivalent training in the human services field.
  • Candidates who self-identify as Indigenous with lived experience are encouraged to apply
  • Minimum of 2 years’ work experience in the settlement and/or community work sectors.
  • Experience with development of materials targeting diverse groups and in multiple formats
  • Familiarity with delivering services virtually including training in a web-based environment
  • Demonstrated cross-cultural communication skills with clients, other agencies and the public.
  • Ability to maintain excellent working relationships with community partners.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point). Proficient in Google platforms (slack, forms, surveys, meet etc.), virtual meeting tools, social media 

 

 

Location: Scarborough

Compensation: $28.52 to $31.74 based on experience

Hours of work: 35 hours per week, including evenings, weekends and occasional overtime is required
